Royal Resorts helping the community

From scholarships for students, aid for the sick to conservation, Royal Resorts supports many community causes. Here’s a look at some of the Royal Resorts Foundation’s latest projects.

Don Bosco Youth Center shows off its new kitchen

We have great news to share with you about the Don Bosco Youth Center at the Ciudad de la Alegria in Cancun, the beneficiary of the 2018 Royal Resorts Foundation Race. The construction of the kitchen we are sponsoring is now complete and it was inaugurated on September 4.

Thanks to the support of all those who took part in the race in February 2018, the 85 students taking classes and workshops at the center will now be eating nutritious meals prepared in the brand new kitchen. Not only that, the idea is that they will also learn how to cook in the new kitchen and attend workshops on the importance of healthy eating and hygiene. This will stand them in good stead if they decide to go into the hotel industry or catering.

A new park for Cancun

In other community news, Royal Resorts is adding its support to the creation of Parque Cancun, a new green space for the city by sending one of its gardeners to participate with skills and labor in the first phase of the project for one year.

This new park is being built on the original municipal landfill that was once behind the universities on Avenida Bonampak in Downtown Cancun. It covers 234 hectares and incorporates 100 hectares of wetlands, savanna, jungle and mangrove forest on the shores of the Nichupte Lagoon, thus preserving the habitat for birds, crocodiles, iguanas, raccoons, coatimundis and other wildlife.

The master plan for Parque Cancun includes gardens, nature trails, a bike track,  skate park, an open-air gym and sports fields, a children’s playground and areas for the elderly and physically challenged to enjoy. There will be a cultural area for cinema, theater, dance and concerts under the stars, an observation tower for birdwatchers and a botanical garden. Also planned are an animal refuge where injured wildlife is nursed back to health, offices for government environmental agencies and a Biodiversity Museum with exhibits showcasing biosphere reserves and national parks of the Yucatan Peninsula and their extraordinary flora and fauna and the impact of climate change.

Royal Resorts employees lend a helping hand

In addition to donations to the Royal Resorts Foundation, Royal Resorts staff are always looking for ways to help the sick and needy. They organize raffles, sell food, participate in sponsored runs, donate clothes and study materials and much more. On this occasion, the telephone operators got together to prepare Mexican snacks and sell them with all proceeds going to help the son of a colleague who is recovering from a cornea transplant.

A chance to go to university

The Royal Resorts Foundation is also helping three students on a low income study for a degree at La Salle University in Cancun. It is funding 40 percent of the scholarship, the University 40 percent and the students 20 percent. The students must do community work and their work experience at the company that is their sponsor.
