Travel Gallery

Here’s our monthly gallery showcasing some of the region’s many natural and historical attractions. How many have you visited? Which ones would you like to explore on future visits to Royal Resorts?

Aktun Chen

Aktun Chen

The Aktun Chen cave system lies in the jungle just south of Akumal. There are spotlights in the galleries to show the turquoise waters of cenotes and the delicate beauty of the stalactites, stalagmites and flowstones sculpted by water and calcite over millions of years.

Xcacel

Xcacel

A track through the jungle and a palm grove leads to the pristine crescent-shaped beach of Xcacel, a hidden secret. Designated a protected area and turtle sanctuary by the Quintana Roo government, Xcacel-Xcacelito is one of the world’s most important nesting areas for the green turtle.

Mahahual

The gateway to the Gran Costa Maya in southern Quintana Roo, Mahahual is a traditional Mexican Caribbean fishing community that is also the site of a cruise ship terminal. Relax on palm-lined beaches, go snorkeling and if you are a diver arrange a trip to Banco Chinchorro, a spectacular atoll rich in marine life and the site of many shipwrecks over the centuries.

Uxmal

Uxmal

An hour’s drive south of Mérida, Uxmal is one of the loveliest ancient cities in the Maya World. Its architectural wonders include the Magician’s Pyramid, the Nuns’ Quadrangle, which is a courtyard surrounded by four palaces, the Palace of the Governor, the Great Pyramid and El Palomar. If you decide to stay the night in one of the nearby hotels to explore the other archaeological sites on the Puuc Route in the morning, why not return to Uxmal in the evening for the video mapping.
