On May 3, the Royal Resorts Foundation was able to bring some magic into the lives of sick and impoverished children who were the guests of honor at a Children’s Day Party coordinated by Mexican charity Dr. Sonrisas (Dr. Smiles).

Around 300 children spent a fun-filled morning at Colegio Alamos, a local secondary school on the outskirts of Cancún. They played games, received gifts, candies and balloon figures and enjoyed live entertainment and lunch. And of course, they all took part in the time-honored Mexican party tradition of hitting the piñata until it burst open and candies rained down!

In the lead up to the party, the Royal Resorts Foundation organized a Toy Drive at the resorts to collect new dolls, soft toys, cars, games and other gifts for the children. A group of staff, Charles and Christina A., members at The Royal Cancun and Grand Residences owners Joseph and Julie W. also volunteered to help out at the party.

With a motto of “Happiness is the best medicine, “ Dr. Sonrisas A.C. is a Mexican charity that works with chronically or terminally ill children, organizing events and special activities to bring smiles to their faces. Whether they want to meet a football star or their favorite singer, swim with dolphins, be a fairy princess for a day or go on vacation, Dr. Sonrisas works with donors to make their dreams come true.

Dr. Sonrisas volunteers visit children in hospital and work with schools, helping them to organize their own events to raise money for wheelchairs, medicines and more. Financial assistance is also available to provide treatment and transplants for children with chronic kidney disease.

Founded in 2003, Dr. Sonrisas has more than 3,500 volunteers, works with more than 20 hospitals and 20 NGOS and is currently helping more than 2,000 children in different parts of Mexico.

We would like to thank all our members, guests and employees who donated toys and gave up their time to help at this very special Children’s Day event.
