Turtle Season is Here Again
Members of the Royal Resorts security staff have begun to patrol the beach in front of the Cancun resorts on the lookout for our very special summer visitors, the female sea turtles that come ashore at night to lay their eggs in the sand. The Mexican Caribbean is an important nesting area for rare green and loggerhead turtles and biologists, hotel personnel and conservationists watch over the creatures as they laboriously dig their nests. The eggs are subsequently collected and moved to a corral above the high water mark where they hatch 45 to 60 days later.
Resort guests may be lucky enough to have a National Geographic experience and watch one of these beautiful and ancient creatures from a distance as its lays its eggs, or participate in one of the turtle releases later in the summer.  Royal Resorts has been participating in the annual Cancun Turtle Conservation campaign since 1985.

Whale Shark Watching
If you are due to visit Cancun during the summer, why not sign up for a trip to see the whale sharks, the world’s largest fish. This incredible experience is only available in a handful of spots around the globe including Australia, Fiji, Belize and the Mexican Caribbean. These gentle giants gather to feed on plankton in an area of deep water off the island of Holbox and Cabo Catoche in northern Quintana Roo from mid-May to September. Tours are available with Thomas More Travel.

Explore the Yucatan
On your next trip to the Mexican Caribbean, be sure to spend some time outside your resort exploring the area. From ancient temples to a dazzling yellow convent and the salmon pink of thousands of flamingos, the Yucatan Peninsula is packed with natural and historical wonders and even if you have been coming down for many years, there is always somewhere new and exciting to visit.
Go on a photo safari in the area’s nature reserves and catch rare and colorful wildlife on film, swim in the crystal-clear waters of a cenote, zip line through the jungle canopy and more.
Let Thomas More Travel, the in-house travel agency at Royal Resorts, be your guide.

Dive Right in
Grab your snorkel mask, take a deep breath and start exploring the underwater world of the Caribbean. Home to hundreds of species of fish and other colorful sea creatures, the world’s second longest coral reef system stretches south along the Quintana Roo coast into Belize and is an endless source of wonder for divers.
If you have never seen a coral reef, try snorkeling during your vacation or learn how to dive by taking a resort course. A variety of trips is available for all levels of experience and the staff at the tour desk will help you find one that’s suitable for you.

Coba Experience
Thomas More Travel is offering a new trip to the ancient city of Coba that also offers you the chance to meet the Maya of today, learn about their timeless traditions and even support sustainable development projects in the local area.
The day includes a guided tour of the archaeological site, which is one of the largest in the Maya World and one of the least explored; time to take photos of jungle flora and fauna, a visit to a pottery workshop in a nearby village and to a cenote to watch an atmospheric representation of the ancient Mayan ballgame.

Tune into Royal Channel, the Royal Resorts TV station, during your next trip for a fun line up of programs on activities, entertainment and sites of interest in the area.
