December is a time of giving, for reaching out to those in need and spreading a little happiness. Before Christmas, the Royal Resorts Foundation was able to help some of the poorest members of the local community. A group of Royal Resorts staff and members visited El Milagro, a low-income district in Cancún, and distributed groceries, servings of freshly made spaghetti, packets of cookies and candies to residents.

Located on the outskirts of Cancun, El Milagro is one of the shanty settlements that have been carved out of the jungle on the western and northern limits of the city. Its inhabitants, many of who are migrant workers and their families, still lack access to proper housing and public services. Life is hard here and the inhabitants need a helping hand. On this occasion, as a Christmas surprise, the Royal Resorts Foundation was able to hand out grocery gift boxes to more than 150 families. Our volunteers also had bags of candy and cookies for the children and were soon besieged as the word spread like wildfire!

This Christmas Surprise was made possible thanks to the generous donations received from members, guests and staff and the Sales & Marketing Division. The Royal Resorts Foundation also made a donation, matching the amount that had been collected.

The cookies were supplied by the Royal Resorts Bakery and the spaghetti by Savio’s/La Dolce Vita Restaurant. Our thanks go out to them and to all the members and staff who took part in this event, whether by donating, providing transport, helping to prepare and pack the food and handing out grocery gift boxes in El Milagro.

The Royal Resorts Foundation is planning additional activities for 2014 to improve the lives of the sick and most vulnerable members of the community. If you would like to support its social, welfare and conservation causes, visit Royal Resorts Foundation website to find out more or donate online.
