The second phase of the reforestation project for the beaches of Cancun is set to begin in August with the planting of an additional 4,500 palm trees along the shoreline.
The project is also being extended to Puerto Morelos where 8,000 palms will be planted on the dunes and beaches. Palm trees and other shoreline plants anchor the sand with their roots and help reduce coastal erosion.
