Mexican archaeologists working in southern Quintana Roo have mapped an ancient Mayan city called Noh-Kah (Big City”). Six groups of buildings dating from the early Classic period of Mayan history (AD 250-600) have been discovered in a 34-hectare area of jungle.
Archaeologists estimate that there may be up to 1,000 archaeological sites awaiting discovery in Quintana Roo.
