October 6, 4 p.m. Tropical Storm Nate is advancing to the north-northwest at about 21 mph/33 km per hour. It is approaching the Yucatan Peninsula and the Yucatan Channel and will move near or over the northeastern tip of the state of Quintana Roo this evening. It will enter the Gulf of Mexico tonight.
Tropical Storm Nate is currently located about 80 mi/125 km east of Cozumel, Mexico. Maximum sustained winds are currently 60 mph/95 km/h. with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend up to 125 miles (205 km) from the center. Additional strengthening is forecast in the next 36 hours.
A Tropical Storm Warning and Hurricane Watch is in effect for the Mexican Caribbean coastline from Punta Herrero to Río Lagartos in Yucatán, this includes Riviera Maya and Cancún. Tropical Storm Nate will affect Riviera Maya and Cancún later today and into the early hours of Saturday with heavy rain, large waves and windy conditions.
