After a bringing a night of wind and rain to the Mexican Caribbean coast, our unwanted visitor Tropical Depression Rina has left the area and the clouds are clearing. Indeed, the sun is already out in Cancun! We are delighted to report that everyone at Royal Resorts is safe and we would like to thank everyone who contacted us via this blog, Twitter and our Facebook page for their concern and the kind wishes they sent us.
We have been talking to Royal Resorts members and guests about Rina and would like to share their testimonials with you. See what they have to say:
The beaches are looking very inviting this afternoon and there has been no erosion as a result of this tropical storm. Sea conditions are now very calm this afternoon and as the yellow flags are flying there are already many people in the water or basking in the tropical sun. The pools are also full of people and the pool bars at all the resorts are now open. The Activity Centers are offering their regular program of pool and beach games and all resort services are operating normally. Take a look at our webcams and watch as the weather conditions steadily improve.
In local news, the Mexican Caribbean suffered minimal damage as a result of this tropical storm such as fallen branches and trees, isolated flooding and power outages, and the clean up is taking place at record speed. Banks, restaurants, shopping centers, stores, bars and other local businesses are open or are reopening later today or tomorrow.
Cancun Airport is handling arriving and departing flights as normal. Beaches, parks, archaeological sites and other natural and historical attractions in the area are already open or set to reopen tomorrow morning.
Ferries are running between Cancun and Isla Mujeres and Playa del Carmen and Cozumel and the Port Authority has also lifted the restrictions for smaller boats. Dive and snorkeling trips will resume on Saturday so that visitors can explore the world’s second longest reef.
We are very much looking forward to welcoming our week 43 members and guests back to their home away from home. What are you waiting for? Pack your swimsuit, shades and sandals and come on down!
