The Travel Gallery
Here’s our monthly gallery showcasing some of the region’s many natural and historical attractions. How many have you visited? Which ones would you like to explore on future visits to Royal Resorts?
Contoy
Two and half hours of sailing through clear Caribbean waters in breathtaking shades of turquoise and azure brings you to a desert island of white beaches, palm trees and mangroves full of bird calls. The “island of birds” is a biosphere reserve that gives sanctuary to more than 150 species of waders and seabirds, from herons, ibis and roseate spoonbills to pelicans and double-crested cormorants. Eco trips are available from Cancun.
Rio Secreto
Discover the majesty of the Riviera Maya’s caves and cenotes on a visit to Rio Secreto just south of Playa del Carmen. Your guide will lead you through the galleries full of stalactites and stalagmites and still pools. Yet there is more to see, this hidden treasure is in a jungle reserve rich in wildlife, including coatimundi, deer, ocelot and the elusive jaguar, and nature walks and bike trails are also offered.
Punta Maroma
Time spent on this lovely Riviera Maya beach is always well worth it. Enjoy the view of endless white sand and a dip in the crystalline waters. If you want to try your hand at water sports, your Concierge will be able to arrange some Maroma adventures for you with the local marina.
San Servacio Cathedral, Valladolid
The twin towers of San Servacio cathedral dominate the main square in the colonial town and pueblo mágico of Valladolid and as you stroll past, you’ll see the congregation at prayer or families attending weddings, baptisms or first communions. Built in the 18th century on the site of an earlier chapel, it is one of several colonial churches in the different barrios or neighborhoods, the others are: San Bernardino de Siena church next to the Sisal convent, Santa Lucía, Candelaria, San Juan de Dios and Santa Ana.
Thomas More Travel can help you arrange trips to these sites of interest and many more in the Mexican Caribbean and the Yucatan.
