In recognition of high standards of food storage, preparation and hygiene in the restaurant kitchens at The Royal Haciendas, The Royal Sands (including Hacienda Sisal) and The Royal Cancun, the resorts have been awarded the prestigious Distintivo H, a seal of approval awarded by the Mexican Tourism Board and the Ministry of Health.

Cayo Largo and Paco’s Tacos at The Royal Islander were the latest restaurants to garner the Distinctivo H award, both scoring 100% marks in their inspection, which took place in December 2012. Representatives of Royal Resorts received the award plaque from the Secretary of Tourism Claudia Ruiz Massieu and Quintana Roo Governor Roberto Borge Angulo at the 11th National Tourism Forum, held in Cancún, February 18 -19.

The Distintivo H takes into account the seven principles of the HACCP System (Hazard Analysis Control Critical Points) used in the restaurant sector in the United States to prevent food-transmitted illnesses.

There are plans to extend the program to the remaining resorts this year.
