Mérida, the state capital of the Yucatán, also has a new museum. The new ultramodern Museum of the Maya World (Gran Museo del Mundo Maya) is located next to the city’s Convention Center and now houses the collection of Mayan ceramics, jewelry, carvings and other artifacts found in the state that was formerly on display at the Anthropology Museum in Palacio Canton. After several months of renovation, the famous Paseo Montejo mansion has reopened as the Regional History Museum and is currently hosting several exhibitions.
