For a time it looked as though Cancun’s champion baseball team the Tigres would be leaving the city, a blow to fans who love their evenings in the baseball park, the tasty snacks on sale and the family ambiance, however the news is that they are staying. Legendary Mexican pitcher Fernando “El Toro” Valenzuela has bought the team, so there will be baseball here for many years to come.

Baseball season starts in Mexico on March 31 and Tigres play their first home game on April 4. If you would like to go, visit the Thomas More Travel desk in your resort to arrange transport and tickets.

In other news, you wouldn’t think of rugby when you think of Cancun or indeed of Mexico, but the Hammerheads, a team made up of Mexican and expat players is going from strength to strength and has its sights set on the National Championship.

The Hammerheads won their last match with a crushing victory over Saltillo 78-8 and are the favorites to win the tournament organized by the Mexican Rugby Federation. Season matches finish on March 11 and the final is on April 1.
