Cancun will soon have more underwater art for snorkelers to visit. Located in the bay between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, in front of El Meco archaeological site, a reef called Arrecife Maya has been selected to be the site for this new gallery. The first six statues are part of a grouping called Bendiciones (Blessings) and they will be submerged in mid-March at a depth of five meters.

The Cancun Nautical Association and the Cancun Underwater Museum of Art chose Arrecife Maya as the location of the exhibit in order to provide snorkelers with a new attraction, protect the reef and give coral and fish populations a chance to recover after years of visitor pressure.
