A team of archaeologists from Guatemala and the United States led by William Saturno excavating at the Maya site of Xultun in the Peten region of northern Guatemala have discovered a room full of ancient murals that appears to have been the chamber of a royal scribe. What makes this find amazing is that the mural contains hieroglyphic inscriptions with calendar dates 7,000 years into the future and supports what many Mayanists such as David Stuart have been saying all along, that December 2012 marks the end of one cycle or b’aktun in the Mayan calendar and the beginning of another one.
