The Royal Sands, the largest of the Royal Resorts in Cancun, celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2020 with the completion of a multi-million dollar facelift of its 340 ocean-view and beachfront suites and more activities for members and guests to enjoy.
The villa renovation program will be finished in the first quarter of the year with the remaining 35 villas getting their new furniture and soft furnishings in stylish shades of blue, green, beige and soft brown.
From a full-service Spa and a gym to tennis courts, a Kids Club and Activity Center, an impressive array of resort amenities await members and guests at The Royal Sands and there’s always something new to try. Members visiting in 2020 can now sign out kayaks and paddle boards at The Royal Sands Marina, in addition to the sailboats that are a longtime vacation favorite. The Friday morning regatta that was a fixture in Captain’s Cove has also been moved to The Royal Sands Marina and there are yoga sessions on the deck at 8 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
There is a pickle ball play area on one of the tennis courts and rackets can be signed out from the Sports Desk, a beach gym and a Members Lounge, which opened in 2019. More new amenities are planned later in the year.
It doesn’t seem a day since The Royal Sands opened its doors in 2000 on Cancun’s most beautiful beach. It is on the site of the Casa Maya, the former Mexican presidential retreat. Before construction on The Royal Sands began, the house that once hosted world leaders during the 1981 North-South Summit that put Cancun on the map was taken down brick by brick and rebuilt in Kabah Park in downtown Cancun. The throne-like carved wooden chairs in the lobby are relics from the house.
