Cancun Airport Welcomes Passenger Number 21 Million
Cancun International Airport welcomed passenger number 21 million on December 26, the second record broken in a month. Passenger numbers have more than doubled in the last 10 years and Cancun is now Mexico’s leading airport in terms of international passengers. With the completion of Terminal 4 in 2020, the airport will have the capacity to handle up to 32 million travelers.
Expansion projects in Terminal 2 and Terminal 3 have been completed and the first phase of Terminal 4 will open in 2018.

Due to the growing popularity of Cancun and the Riviera Maya in the United Kingdom, British Airways will be adding two more direct flights from London Gatwick to Cancun in 2017, one in the spring and one in the summer.
Facelift for Playa Langosta in Cancun
Playa Langosta, one of Cancun’s public beaches has been given a much-needed facelift. In the fall of 2016, a cluster of buildings that had been derelict for years was bulldozed and restrooms, showers and other services were installed in its place for beachgoers to use.
Mayan site of Ichkabal to open in 2017
Located in the jungle 40 kilometers to the west of Bacalar in southern Quintana Roo, the ancient Mayan site of Ichkabal will open to the public in 2017.
Ichkabal dates from 300 B.C., the Preclassic period of Mayan history, and Mexican archaeologists studying the site believe that it was the earliest city state in the region. The principal building stands 40 meters tall and has a base 200 meters long.
