Tropical Storm Marco is moving in a north-northwesterly direction through the Yucatan Channel between the Yucatan Peninsula and Cuba. It is forecast to become a hurricane later today.
The Mexican Government has issued a Tropical Storm Warning for the coast of Quintana Roo from Cancun to Dzilam on the Gulf coast. The center of the storm will move through the Yucatan Channel today and into the Gulf of Mexico by this evening.
The storm’s current location is about 105 mi/170 km ENE of Cozumel, Mexico and it is moving NNW at 12 mph/19 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are 65 mph/100 km. and strengthening is likely. Tropical storm force winds extend outwards up to 45 miles/75 km from the center.
Due to its forecast track, it will bring heavy rain, large waves and windy conditions to the northeastern coast of Quintana Roo and Yucatan on Saturday afternoon and evening and on Sunday.
