Update – August 17th. 5 p.m.
Tropical Storm Grace is moving west through the Caribbean on a path towards the Yucatan Peninsula. The Mexican government has now issued a Hurricane Warning for the Quintana Roo coast from Cancun to Punta Herrero in Sian Ka’an, including Cozumel. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect north from Cancun to Cabo Catoche and from Punta Herrero to Puerto Costa Maya.
The storm is expected to strengthen and make landfall on the Quintana Roo coast possibly as a Category 1 hurricane late Wednesday or early Thursday. Wind, heavy rain, and a storm surge are forecast for the area.
Royal Resorts has activated its Hurricane Contingency Plan. Due to the forecast category of the storm, evacuation will not be necessary, however, we are implementing our shelter protocols at the resorts to keep guests safe.
There is no cause for alarm, but guests should remain at their resort on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning as weather conditions will deteriorate. Do not venture on to the beach or streets.
Further updates will be published here, at the Front Desk in the resorts, via voice mail, and on the Royal Channel (channels 3 in English & 2 in Spanish).
