Tropical Depression 14 is moving in a northwesterly direction across the Caribbean towards the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula. It is expected to become a Tropical Storm later today and to strengthen further in the next couple of days.
The Mexican Government has issued a Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning for the coast of Quintana Roo from Punta Herrero in Sian Ka’an north to Cancun and for the Gulf coast to Dzilam. This storm may be near Hurricane Category 1 strength as it approaches the coast of Quintana Roo on Saturday afternoon. It is expected to make landfall around 7 p.m. on Saturday to the south of Tulum.
It is currently located about 255 mi/415 km southeast of Cozumel, Mexico. It is moving NW at 13 mph/20 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph /55 km. and strengthening is likely.
Due to its forecast track, it will bring heavy rain, large waves and windy conditions to the Mexican Caribbean and Yucatan on Saturday afternoon and evening and on Sunday morning.
