Hurricane Delta is currently located about 215 mi /345 km ESE of Cozumel and 240 mi/385 km ESE of Tulum and is now a Category 4 storm as it moves towards the Yucatan Peninsula.
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the coast of Quintana Roo stretching northwards from Tulum to Dzilam on the Gulf coast of the Yucatan, including Cozumel. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the area from Punta Herrero to Tulum and from Dzilam to Progreso.
Delta will move over the northeast coast of Quintana Roo late tonight or early Wednesday morning and into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday afternoon.
Maximum sustained winds are 145 mph/230 km/h. with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outwards up to 30 mi/ 45 km from the center and tropical storm force winds extend up to 105 mi/165 km. Delta is moving towards the west-northwest at 17 mph/28 km. Some additional strengthening is possible and it will be a Category 4 hurricane when makes landfall.
Delta will bring wind, rain, a storm surge of six to nine feet above normal tide levels from Tulum to CaboCatoche and from nine to 13 feet from Cabo Catoche to Progreso and large waves along the coast within the hurricane warning area.
Mandatory evacuation order for Cancun Hotel Zone and Puerto Morelos
Due to the forecast track and strength of this storm, the government ordered the mandatory evacuation of Cancun Hotel Zone. Guests at The Royal Sands, The Royal Islander and The Royal Cancun have been moved to designated hurricane shelters in three colleges in Downtown Cancun.
An evacuation order was also issued for hotels in Puerto Morelos and guests at Grand Residences have been taken to The Royal Haciendas, which is a designated hurricane shelter.

The wellbeing of our guests is our utmost concern and we have taken measures to keep them safe and to make them as comfortable as possible in the hurricane shelters, all of which have been equipped with emergency supplies and sleeping pads. Brigades of staff will be on hand in the shelters to take care of them. Social distancing will be respected and the use of face masks is mandatory.
