The Royal Sands celebrates another important milestone on February 5, it is 25 years old. Twenty-five years of creating unforgettable vacation moments, of beach time, fun and friendships by the pool, of spectacular Caribbean sunrises and sunsets over the lagoon and the pitter patter of thousands of newly hatched turtles each summer as they race down the sand towards the waves and a new life at sea. Through every visit, The Royal Sands team members have welcomed you to your home away from home and looked after you and your family and they look forward to doing so for many more years to come.
The Royal Sands is nestled on Cancun’s finest beach, on the lot once occupied by the Casa Maya presidential retreat, the splendid rustic Caribbean-style house that received many of the world’s leaders for the North-South Summit in 1981 that put Mexico’s new tourist destination on the map.
Before building could begin on the Casa Maya site, the original house was carefully dismantled and moved along with trees, native palms and other shrubs to a forest reserve on the outskirts of Cancun which later became Parque Kabah. The first phase of The Royal Sands opened on February 5, 2000.
The second phase of the resort and the full-service spa followed in 2001.
Over the years, an array of amenities has been added at The Royal Sands: the kids club, a coffee shop in the resort store, more restaurants, whirlpool tubs on the pool deck and the Aqua Park, among others. The Royal Sands team members are always looking for new activities and services, different flavors and dining moments to enhance your vacation experience.
