Tequila Tasting at Hacienda Sisal
If you like the occasional shot of tequila, why not find out more about Mexico’s most famous liquor during your next Royal Resorts vacation? During the Mexican Food & Spirits Tasting Experience at Hacienda Sisal, you’ll sample the four different kinds of tequila: blanco, reposado, añejo and extra añejo, all of which have different aging periods, and you’ll learn to tell the difference.
The tequilas are paired with a tasting menu of delicious Mexican dishes chosen to enhance the flavor.
The Sommelier will take you into the world of tequila, touching on the history and the production process. The spirit is distilled from a sugary juice extracted from the cooked heart of the agave azul plant, which grows principally in Jalisco, with smaller areas in Guanajuato, Michoacan, Nayarit and Tamaulipas. The Denomination of Origin authenticity certification is only awarded to tequilas produced in these areas.
During the evening, the Sommelier will also introduce you to mezcal, tequila’s southern cousin, a spirit produced in Oaxaca. This is made from a variety of agaves and the production process is different, giving rise to its distinctive smoky flavor.
The Mexican Food & Spirits Tasting Experience is every Monday and Friday at 4:30 p.m. at Hacienda Sisal, reservations are required.
