Valladolid unveils the Walk of the Friars

If you happen to be in the colonial town of Valladolid on a Friday or Saturday evening after a day spent exploring Chichen Itza, cenote hopping or bird watching in Rio Lagartos, there’s a new activity to enjoy that showcases the history of the area.

The Caminata de los Frailes or Walk of the Friars takes place at 8 p.m. along the Calzada de los Frailes, a street that links the main square with the 16th-century San Bernardino Church and Sisal Convent. It follows in the footsteps of the Franciscan monks who came to the Yucatan after the Conquest as missionaries.

The Caminata sets the scene for the video mapping on the history of Valladolid which is then screened at the Convent.

Private tours to Valladolid and eastern Yucatan can be arranged through Thomas More Travel.
