The Travel Gallery

Here’s our monthly gallery showcasing some of the region’s many natural and historical attractions. How many have you visited? Which ones would you like to explore on future visits to Royal Resorts?

Uxmal

Pyramid of the Magician, Uxmal

This towering masterpiece of Maya architecture dominates the skyline at Uxmal, the Yucatan’s other UNESCO World Heritage Site. Did you know that Uxmal means “Thrice built” in the Mayan language? However, archaeologists have discovered that this pyramid went through five building stages at different times in its history.

Cozumel

El Cielo, Cozumel

A unique snorkeling spot off the coast of Cozumel, El Cielo is a stretch of the seabed littered with thousands of starfish wherever you look. Marvel at this gift of nature, but do not disturb the starfish.

Distillery

Mayapan Distillery, Valladolid

Did you know that there are fields of blue agave on the outskirts of Valladolid and an artisanal distillery producing a liqueur resemblish tequila called Mayapan? The pineapple-like heart of the plants are harvested, roasted and then crushed to extract the sugary sap, which is then fermented, distilled and aged. A short tour is available to learn more about the traditional production techniques used.

Under strict certificate of origin rules, tequila may only be produced in Jalisco and areas of Michoacán, Guanajuato, Nayarit and Tamaulipas.

Tankah

Tankah

Between Xel-Ha and Tulum in the Riviera Maya, Tankah gives its name to an archaeological site, a bay and a crystal-clear cenote in the mangroves.
