We are island-bound this month with four treasures in the Mexican Caribbean. Why not plan a spot of island hopping on your next visit?

Isla Mujeres
A 20-minute ferry ride across the bay, Cancun’s sister island captivates visitors with its beautiful beaches, endless views of turquoise water, fresh seafood and Caribbean ambiance.

Cozumel
Mexico’s largest inhabited island is a 30-minute ferry ride from Playa del Carmen across a stretch of indigo-colored water where dolphins play. Cozumel is world-famous for its breathtaking coral reefs but also offers beautiful beaches, nature reserves and ancient Maya history.

Holbox
Located in the Gulf of Mexico, a short boat ride from the port of Chiquila, Holbox is a fishing community nestled on wide sandy beaches and the shores of the Yalahau Lagoon. The pace of life is slower here: long walks along the beach, bird watching, fishing, leisurely seafood lunches and incredible sunsets.

Contoy
Known as the “Isla de Pajaros” or Island of Birds, Contoy is a tiny island to the north of Cancun and Isla Mujeres that is an important bird sanctuary. Its mangrove forests and palm groves are full of birdcalls and visitors will catch a glimpse of colonies of pelicans, frigate birds, roseate spoonbills and several species of herons.
