Royal Resorts Foundation: Caring for the Community

The Royal Resorts Foundation looks for ways to transform the lives of those in need, provide screening and medical treatment for the seriously ill and funds scholarships for children from disadvantaged households. In addition to its community work, it also works with conservation groups to protect the Mayan jungle and the creatures that inhabit it.

Here is a look at the Foundation’s causes and most recent initiatives.

Shining stars, scholarships for children in need

The Royal Resorts Foundation awards scholarships to a class of 31 girls (shown here before the COVID-19 pandemic) attending the Mano Amiga School in the Ciudad de la Alegria community center on the outskirts of Cancun.

Mano Amiga students come from poor families, some from single parent households or vulnerable backgrounds overshadowed by domestic violence, addiction, crime or other problems that would make it impossible for the child to continue his/her studies if not for this support.

At Mano Amiga, children study, play and learn to be good citizens in a safe, happy environment, with access to nutritious meals and medical treatment.

In the summer, the Foundation donated $108,000 pesos to the Mano Amiga scholarship program to give our students a future filled with hope and opportunities.

Vital Screening and Treatment for Cancer Patients

In 2021, the Royal Resorts Foundation paid for 100 women on a low income to have mammograms and for a prostate cancer testing program for Royal Resorts employees.

Physiotherapy for children

The Royal Resorts Foundation supports six children with motor and neurological challenges so that they can attend the CRIT or Cancun Rehabilitation Center for regular sessions of physio and hydrotherapy, visits to the speech therapist or psychologist to help improve their mobility, motor and communication skills and give them a better, happier life.

Conservation

Royal Resorts is a longtime supporter of conservation and the Royal Resorts Foundation donated US$13,500 to Cancun NGO Amigos de Sian Ka’an to help protect the Yucatan Peninsula’s precious ecosystems and wildlife.

Amigos de Sian Ka’an projects include the protection of jungle and wetland ecosystems in Sian Ka’an and elsewhere in the Mexican Caribbean. With other area biologists and conservationists, they are working for the creation of more reserves and of wildlife corridors linking reserves that are vital for rare species such as the jaguar.

A team of hydrologists is developing a water management plan to protect the area’s underground rivers and cenotes and working with international scientists to map them. Other experts are conducting climate change studies and monitoring coral reef health and fish populations.

Amigos de Sian Ka’an staff also have an important environmental education role and have projects to promote sustainable development and the Maya Ka’an ecotourism destination, promoting community tourism in villages in Sian Kaán and the Zona Maya, among others.

Spreading Happiness campaign

From helping host children’s parties for Children’s Day and Día de Reyes on January 6, the Royal Resorts Foundation also has a community campaign called Spreading Happiness to bring smiles to the faces of those in need, the sick and the old.

Our fundraising initiatives

Thanks to your generosity, whether it’s through your contributions to the Dollar a Stay campaign at the resorts during your vacation or online donations, the Royal Resorts Foundation can help those in need. It also raises money through the sale of recycled aluminum, plastic and paper waste and from raffles, auctions and the sale of souvenir t-shirts at events during the year like The Royal Haciendas Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.

Royal Resorts employees have their own departmental initiatives to support the Royal Resorts Foundation, including the Spa Giving Back massage program, a donation of part of the proceeds from vending machine sales and Pizza with Purpose. Every time members and guests order an individual pizza from Bartolo’s Pizza, $1 peso is donated to the Royal Resorts Foundation, rising to $3 pesos for a medium pizza and $5 pesos for a large pizza.
