Already thinking about next year’s vacation? The Mexican Caribbean will have two new parks for you and your family to enjoy.

First up is the Parque Maya in the heart of Cancun Hotel Zone. Located next to Captain’s Cove and opposite the Cancun Maya Museum, the park blends adventure and Mayan history. Visitors can try their hand at zip lining, cross rope bridges and kayaking on the lagoon while also immersing themselves in the ancient world of the Maya.

Parque Maya will feature an exhibition on the Mayan universe and the admission fee also includes the visit to the Cancun Maya Museum and to El Rey archaeological site just five minutes away.

The name of the second park is Amikoo (“Amigo” in Maya) and it will be located in the Riviera Maya near Punta Maroma. Hailed as the largest theme park in Latin America, it is a 100 percent Mexican project and will be built with an investment of US$840 million. It takes its inspiration from the ancient Maya, nature and Mexican traditions and will have something to appeal to all ages.

Amikoo attractions will include a flight simulator taking visitors on a journey through Mexican skies and across its spectacular landscapes and a similar ride taking them into the depths of the ocean to see the country’s rich marine life. There will be an interactive archaeology and anthropology museum with a section on underwater archaeology and cenote exploration.

Pirates of Bacalar takes visitors on a journey through time to meet a cast of buccaneers such as Lorenzillo and Captain Henry Morgan who laid siege to Mexican ports during the Colonial period.

For adventure buffs there will be a series of 24 thrilling rides, zip lining and an oversized wave pool. Some rides take them through the Mayan jungle and others skirt the reproductions of some of the most famous Mayan temples and pyramids.

Amikoo will also have a Mexican Fair, a shopping center, restaurants, a convention center, and concert hall. The first phase of the park is slated to open in late 2018 and the project will be completed in 2020.
