The Cancun flight network continues to expand with the return of flights from cities in the US and Canada and announcements of new services for the coming months.
From Europe there are new flights from Barcelona, Madrid and Lisbon.
The latest new regional flight to be added is the TAG Airlines service from Guatemala City to Cancun operating on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. This puts visitor attractions such as the colonial city of La Antigua Guatemala, Lake Atitlan and mountain towns such as Chichicastenango within reach if you would like to explore more of the Maya World.
Work on the Maya Train advances
Construction has begun on the Tren Maya or Maya railway project which will link the five states in southeast Mexico and major archaeological sites such as Chichén Itzá, Calakmul and Palenque in a Maya World circuit.
The Cancun-Riviera Maya section will be an elevated railway running above the central division on Highway 307 and work is already underway on clearing the division. Mature trees are being carefully removed and replanted in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and other parts of the Riviera Maya.
Mexican President López recently announced that the construction of an airport in the Tulum area as part of the Tren Maya project. The railway is scheduled for completion in 2023.
