Hurricane Delta is currently located about 370 mi /595 km ESE of Cozumel and 115 mi/185 km SSW of Grand Cayman and is strengthening rapidly as it moves through the Caribbean.
A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the coast of Quintana Roo stretching northwards from Tulum to Dzilam on the Gulf coast of the Yucatan, including Cozumel. A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for the area from Punta Herrero to Tulum and from Dzilam to Progreso.
Delta will approach the northeast coast of Quintana Roo and the Yucatan Channel on Tuesday night, moving through the area early on Wednesday and into the Gulf of Mexico on Wednesday afternoon.
Maximum sustained winds are 110 mph/175 km/h. with higher gusts. Hurricane force winds extend outwards up to 25 mi/ 35 km. Tropical storm force winds extend 90 mi/150 km from the center. Delta is moving towards the west-northwest at 15 mph/24 km. Further strengthening is forecast and it is expected to be a major hurricane when it moves over the Yucatan Peninsula on Wednesday.
Delta will bring wind, rain, a storm surge of six to nine feet above normal tide levels and large waves along the coast within the hurricane warning area.
