Tropical Storm Delta is currently located about 160 mi /260 km SSW of Negril in Jamaica and 245 mi/395 km SSE of Grand Cayman and is strengthening rapidly as it moves through the Caribbean. It is expected to become a hurricane tonight or on Tuesday.
Due to its forecast track, the Mexican Government has declared a Hurricane Warning for the coast of Quintana Roo stretching northwards from Tulum to Rio Lagartos on the Gulf coast of the Yucatan, including Cozumel.
Delta will approach the northeast coast of Quintana Roo on Tuesday afternoon or evening before moving into the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday night.
Maximum sustained winds are 70 mph/95km/h. with higher gusts. Tropical storm force winds extend 70 mi/110 km from the center. Delta is moving towards the west at 8 mph/15km and is expected to turn to the west-northwest this evening.
Further strengthening is expected and it will be a major hurricane by the time it nears the Yucatan Peninsula.
Delta will bring wind, rain, a storm surge of four to seven feet above normal levels and large waves along the coast within the hurricane warning area.
