Tropical Depression 14 is just off the northeastern coast of Honduras and is bringing tropical storm force winds and heavy rain to the region. It is expected to become a Tropical Storm later today and further strengthening is expected as it moves across the warm waters of the Caribbean towards the east coast of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The Mexican Government has issued a Hurricane Watch and Tropical Storm Warning for the coast of Quintana Roo from Punta Herrero in Sian Ka’an north to Cancun and for the Gulf coast to Dzilam. This storm may be near or reach Hurricane Category 1 strength as it approaches the coast of Quintana Roo on Saturday afternoon. It is expected to make landfall around 7 p.m. on Saturday to the south of Tulum.
It is currently located about 165mi/270 km E of Roatan in the Bay Islands, Honduras and 325 mi/525 km southeast of Cozumel, Mexico. It is moving to the WNW at 14 mph/22 km/h. Maximum sustained winds are currently 35 mph /55 km. and strengthening is likely.
Due to its forecast track, it will bring heavy rain, large waves and windy conditions to the Mexican Caribbean and Yucatan on Saturday afternoon and evening and on Sunday morning. If you are staying with us we recommend that you remain at your resort on Saturday evening.
