Celebrating 18 years of unforgettable vacation moments at The Royal Sands. It doesn’t seem so long ago that the resort opened in 2000 on Cancun’s finest beach. By 2001, it had 340 two-bedroom villas and to this day it is still the largest resort in the Royal Resorts collection.
The stretch of shoreline that The Royal Sands sits on is so beautiful that it was once the site of Casa Maya, the low-rise tropical house that was the Caribbean retreat for Mexican presidents.
With the welcoming, family-friendly ambiance that is a hallmark of all the Royal Resorts, The Royal Sands offers a variety of activities for a fun vacation. Three large pools, including an infinity pool and lap pool and a separate pool for children; a full-service spa and gym, tennis courts and a basketball court added in 2017 head the list. A small marina across the road offers sail boating on the lagoon. The activity center and kids clubs offer a packed program of daily activities for all ages and tour desk staff help plan day trips, park visits and water sports in the area. The resort store features a small cafe serving Starbucks coffee and the boutique and jewelry store are the first stops for souvenirs.
La Veranda Restaurant and Sidelines Sports Bar were renovated in the fall of 2017 and the contemporary decor and redesign of the bar are proving popular with members and guests. Char Hut pool bar is the spot for tasty snacks and shrimp tacos with a great view of the beach; Sand Dollar Gourmet Terrace offers a menu of sushi, ceviche and other seafood dishes and Hacienda Sisal is a favorite for Mexican cuisine.
The villas at The Royal Sands are being completely renovated as part of a phased program that is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019. To date, 163 villas already have their new furniture and soft furnishings in fresh colors and another 100 will be renovated this year (subject to occupancy).
