Originally from Mérida, capital of the state of Yucatán, Angel Estrada studied tourism and after graduation moved to Cancún in search of work. He did his executive training at Royal Resorts in 1997 and two months later he was recruited to work at Pelican Resort Club on the island of St. Maarten as Operations Manager. After seven years in the Caribbean, he returned to Mexico and has been with Royal Resorts for a total of 19 years.

In 2005, Angel was appointed to coordinate the opening of The Royal Haciendas and was the first Operations Manager at the brand new Riviera Maya resort. In 2009, he returned to Cancún as Executive Resort Operations Manager overseeing security, maintenance, housekeeping, social activities, the front desk and the day to day running of the resorts.

Angel’s principal responsibilities are to supervise standards, budget control, the execution of fixed asset and major repair projects, improving efficiency and quality, and guest services. His door is always open to members and guests and they can contact him by email; many members may have also seen him at the weekly First to Know meetings.

“Members who haven’t visited Royal Resorts for a couple of years may notice some changes, “ Angel says, “In 2015, we added pool lifts at the resorts for guests with mobility challenges and we now have pool and beach chairs for them too. We also added separate bathrooms at The Royal Sands and The Royal Cancun and are improving access ramps on the premises. In other developments, this year we are renovating the first 100 units at The Royal Sands and in the fall we will be replacing the terrace furniture at The Royal Islander, where we are also working on a new look for the resort lobby.”

Angel says he has two favorite resorts, “The Royal Haciendas, I was there from the beginning and saw it take shape and become the beautiful vacation hideaway it is today. I was involved in all the decision making on resort design and décor. And as a parent of two small children, I love the beach and family ambiance at The Royal Cancun.”

Angel adds, “My message to our members and guests is that we are always looking for ways to enrich their vacation experience and exceed their expectations.”
