As we informed you yesterday, in the early hours of Thursday, August 27, a 10-meter-wide stretch of Highway 307 that connects Playa del Carmen to Cancun was affected by subsidence in front of the Iberostar Playa Paraíso Hotel. Four lanes of the highway are now open but some delays are still possible as the authorities continue with repairs. If you are traveling to Cancun or to the airport, we recommend that you take precautions and set off earlier than planned.
Cancun International Airport authorities have notified airlines about this problem and passengers traveling to the airport from the Riviera Maya are being accommodated on later flights wherever possible. It is important to note however that this depends on the policies of each airline.
Traffic is expected to return to normal in the coming days, although from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. only one lane will be open in the affected area as repairs are completed.
We will keep you informed as we receive more information from the authorities. If you are staying at the resorts please contact the Thomas More Travel desk or the Front Desk at ext. 171 if you have any questions.
