On January 6, Dia de Reyes or Epiphany, the day Mexican children traditionally receive presents from the Three Kings, Royal Resorts Foundation volunteers gave a seasonal surprise to the little ones at the Mision Educarte School in Alfredo V Bonfil, a district on the outskirts of Cancun. They came bearing toys, the customary rosca de reyes cake, sodas, piñatas and lots of candy.
Around 220 children of all ages, from 12-year-olds to a newborn baby, received the toys donated at Royal Resorts by members, guests and staff.
After listening to the story of the Three Kings and the significance of Dia de Reyes, the children took turns to hit the piñata and collect the candies as it burst open. Then they lined up for a slice of the rosca, constantly on the look out for the plastic white dolls hidden inside the cake that symbolize Baby Jesus. They all enjoyed a fun morning, children, teachers, parents and volunteers alike.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in our Christmas Toy Drive. As a result of your support, over 350 disadvantaged children received toys at the Dia de Reyes event and the Dia de Sonrisas Party on November 29.
