The latest Royal Resorts turtle season statistics released on September 25 reveal that our sea turtle guardians have protected 241 nests and 27,729 eggs at The Royal Sands and The Royal Caribbean in Cancun. Staff and guests have already released 12,723 baby turtles to begin life at sea and thousands more will hatch in the weeks to come.
In news from Puerto Morelos, the 2014 season tally at Grand Residences Riviera Cancun stands at five nests and 430 hatchlings. This is the first year that Grand Residences is participating in the annual conservation campaign that takes place every summer in the Mexican Caribbean.
Royal Resorts has been watching over the sea turtles since 1985 and was one of the first companies to participate in the Cancun City Hall turtle conservation initiative. Official record keeping began at the resorts in 1998 and to date 6,510 nests have been protected and 535,547 baby turtles released.
