The Royal Haciendas® in Playa del Carmen cordially invites Royal Resorts members and guests to join its Earth Day celebrations on April 22 and pay tribute to the wonderful, precious and fragile world we live in.
The Earth Day Rally starts at 3 p.m. and features a fun quiz and activities suitable for adults and children. During the event, participants will learn about the area’s rich natural heritage and discuss what they can do to protect the environment while on vacation and back home.
The meeting point for the Rally is the Multiple Use Area in Phase I of the resort where participants will be sorted into teams named after trees native to the area. Competitors will then follow a trail around the resort, answering questions about the flora and fauna of the Mexican Caribbean and finding clues to help them on their way. They’ll score points for every correct answer made during the rally and when they cross the finishing line, the final tally of points will reveal the winning team of eco warriors.
After the rally, there will be a sale of special planters made from recycled materials to raise money for the Royal Resorts Foundation. The containers are suitable for flowers, shrubs and even small trees, and by purchasing one guests will be helping to support the Foundation’s conservation cause: the protection of the Mayan Jungle.
Even if you are not at The Royal Haciendas you can still celebrate Earth Day. Go for a stroll along the beach, listen to the waves and watch the birds as you make your pledge to protect the planet.
And during your stay, discover some of the natural wonders of the Mexican Caribbean: beautiful beaches, coral reefs and coastal lagoons; jungles and wetlands teeming with wildlife; caves and crystal-clear cenotes or limestone sinkholes. Plan a bird-watching trip – 550 species of bird make their home in the Yucatán Peninsula, or visit the area’s reserves. Your options include day trips to Sian Ka’an, Rio Lagartos and Contoy or longer excursions further afield to Celestun and Calakmul. Ask at the tour desk in your resort for more information.
