Royal Spa Pampering
Members and guests are lining up to try the new Fish Spa at The Royal Sands. During a fish pedicure, tiny Garra Rufa fish gently nibble away dry skin leaving the feet soft and smooth. Located in the resort lobby; reservations are also taken at the Spa. Another new therapy that will shortly be available at the Royal Spa is the Bamboo Massage. This ancient healing technique from the Far East alleviates stress, eliminates toxins, improves blood circulation, acts against cellulite and sculpts the body.
Bamboo canes that have been carefully cut and honed to fit the different areas of the human body are used to massage the skin and release muscle tension.
In the ancient cultures of the Far East, bamboo was thought to absorb negative energy emanating from the body. Harmful thoughts and impulses would then move through the bamboo canes and be cleansed, returning to the body as positive energy.
Helping the Community
As of March 13, US$78,000 had been raised for the charitable causes supported by the Royal Resorts Foundation. We would like to thank all Royal Resorts members, guests and staff who have already made a donation for their generosity, compassion and enthusiasm. The Royal Resorts Foundation is supporting four key causes: the fight against cancer, education for underprivileged children, the conservation of the Mayan Jungle and emergency relief for employees in times of serious illness.
Fundraising events organized at the resorts in the last few months include a concert and a raffle, which raised money for a little girl suffering from a life-threatening illness, the sale of commemorative Foundation t-shirts and a Run for Health at The Royal Haciendas. A used clothing and shoe drive donated garments to the Ciudad de la Alegría for children, old age pensioners and hospital patients. Many more activities and fundraisers are planned this year.

Cancún is 43 Years Old
Mexico’s pioneer master-planned beach resort is 43 years old in April and it is celebrating with a variety of community and cultural events. The festivities will include parades, conferences given by local historians and Cancún pioneers, art exhibitions to commemorate World Art Day on April 14, offerings, a Mayan ceremony, a mass in Cancún Cathedral, a mega picnic and more.
The principal parade of Cancún pioneers will take place on April 20 at 4 p.m., following a route from the fire station to Las Palapas Park where a festival will take place.
The Palibrarte Book Festival at the Casa de la Cultura in Downtown Cancun also forms part of the festivities as will the First Callejoneada de Arte de la Ciudad, an art and crafts exhibition in Las Palapas Park and surrounding streets.
Classical Music and Dance in Cancún
The Teatro de Cancún at the Embarcadero in the Cancún Hotel Zone is offering a concert of classical Spanish music on April 19. The Camarata de Cancun Chamber Orchestra will be performing a selection of music from famous Spanish composers such as Joaquín Rodrigo, Manuel de Falla and Joaquín Turina. The concert starts at 8:30 p.m.; tickets cost $200 and $300 pesos and can be purchased at the theater ticket booths.
On April 27 at 7 p.m., the theater is also hosting the Sixth International Dance Gathering in which ballet schools from Cancún, Mexico, US, Canada, Colombia and the Dominican Republic will be participating. Tickets will go on sale on April 19 and cost $180, $150 and $140 pesos, all proceeds will be donated to Save the Children and the gala will be repeated in Xcaret on April 28.
Cancún International Fishing Tournament
Fishermen will gather in Cancún on April 26, 27 and 28 for an International Big Game Fishing Tournament. The departure point is the Caribbean Carnaval dock and the inscription fee is $4,000 pesos per person. The event is expected to draw more than 300 competitors and 100 boats.
Puerto Morelos Hosts the Seventh Copa del Rey Polo Tournament
The El Rey Polo Club in Puerto Morelos will be hosting the Seventh Copa del Rey from April 25 to 28. Six teams of riders and their steeds are participating in this gala event of grace, beauty and speed in a beautiful jungle setting. El Rey Polo Club is located in the jungle on the Ruta de los Cenotes Highway inland from Puerto Morelos. The first polo game is on Friday, April 26 at 2:30 p.m.
Riviera Maya Film Festival
Twelve different movie theaters and four beachfront locations in Cancún, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Morelos, Tulum and Holbox will be screening 70 Mexican and international films during the Riviera Maya Film Festival, April 21 to 27.
The festival features a Mexican Film competition, pre and post-production awards, workshops and conferences given by some of the 350 honored festival guests from the world of film.
