If you are a US citizen and your passport is due to expire this year please be aware that the US State Department is warning of delays for the issue of replacement passports.

In 2006, passports became mandatory for U.S. citizens traveling between the United States and Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. As passports are valid for ten years, the U.S. State Department foresees a significant increase in passport applications and renewal requests this year and is advising that they may take more than 16 weeks to process. More than 17 million Americans are expected to apply for or renew passports in 2016, three million more than last year.

Passports must be valid for up to six months at time of arrival to your travel destination. If your passport is due to expire that year, please take this into consideration and apply for it earlier than you had planned to. For passport and visa information contact the Travel Advisory Section of the U.S. State Department at (202) 647-5225 or visit the State Department website at http://www.state.gov/travel.
