For the second year running, the International Airport Council (IAC) has rated Cancun Airport as the best airport in Latin America and among the top five in the world with a handling capacity of five to 15 million passengers a year, in terms of quality of services offered. Airport officials will be traveling to New Delhi, India for the award ceremony on April 7 to be held during the International Airport Council Asia Regional Assembly.
In another sign of Cancun’s growing importance as a regional flight hub, several airlines recently announced that they will be including the Mexican Caribbean in their flight network or are adding more departures. Major European carrier, Air France will be flying to Cancún three times a week from Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, as of October 21, 2011. Russian airline Aeroflot is expected to start twice-weekly flights from Moscow to Cancun and Mexico City in the coming months and there are encouraging signs that Iberia, KLM and Lufthansa are interested in expanding to Cancun.
