In December 2015, Mexico and the United States signed an Open Skies Agreement, which will boost the number of commercial flights between both countries. It means that more airlines will be able to fly routes between major cities in the United States and Mexico, where previously only two or three carriers could offer the service.

Ratification of the treaty by the Mexican Senate is expected to take place this year and it will benefit tourism, manufacturing and commerce in both countries.

In other airline news, Mexican carrier Volaris is set to begin flying to Indianapolis, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati soon.
