The most visited cruise ship destination in the Caribbean, Cozumel received an additional boost with the expansion of Puerta Maya, one of the island’s three cruise ship terminals.
Carnival Corporation has added a third berth to its pier at Puerta Maya in response to high demand for the destination and the many attractions nearby on the mainland. In 2014, 1.5 million Carnival guests visited Puerta Maya on 25 ships from eight different homeports (source: Carnival Corporation).
This extra capacity means that Puerta Maya can capitalize on Cozumel’s popularity. It currently receives an average of 3.3 million cruise ship passengers per year.
