The jungles and wetlands that clothe the island are home to 224 species of bird, including four endemics – the Cozumel Emerald Hummingbird, Cozumel Vireo, Cozumel Wren and Cozumel Thrasher – found nowhere else on earth. On the Yucatan Peninsula Diving Route advanced divers will venture into Xibalba, the mysterious underworld of the Maya and explore sacred caves, cenotes and a labyrinth of hidden waterways hollowed out of the limestone over millions of years.
