Families interested in nature will love the new activities now available at The Royal Cancun. Learn about the ecosystems of the Mexican Caribbean, the rich biodiversity of the mangrove forest and the wetlands and the role they play in protecting the shoreline, filtering water and as breeding and feeding areas for fish and birds. Discover the fragile world of the coral reefs and the threats that they face; get an introduction to native plants, jungle creatures threatened with extinction, Mayan culture and much more. There’s a different talk every week.
The first in the series of talks is Mangroves and wetlands and guests can sign up for a kayak trip the next day to see what they learned about up close.
Other activities include a visit to the resort’s botanical garden and a look at how the gardeners are now using kitchen and garden waste to make their own compost.
Royal Resorts teamed up with Amigos de Sian Ka’an to put together these new activities and biologists working for the local NGO created the presentations, videos and trained the Activity team. If you would like to make a donation in support of Amigos de Sian Ka’an’s conservation work and research throughout the Yucatan Peninsula after the seminar, please let the Activities team know. If you donate US$30 or more you receive a USB containing detailed information about Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve and its immense ecological value, conservation, and photos.
