Turtle season is well underway at Royal Resorts and the July 7 tally was 57 nests with 6,806 eggs at The Royal Sands, 112 nests at The Royal Caribbean and The Royal Islander with 13,145 eggs and 14 nests with 1,680 eggs at Grand Residences in Puerto Morelos.
All the turtles that have nested to date have been green turtles, tortuga blanca or verde in Spanish, with the exception of two loggerhead turtles and two hawksbill turtles.
Ten nests were registered at The Royal Caribbean and The Royal Islander on July 7 and on July 4, one turtle laid a bumper clutch of 188 eggs at The Royal Sands.
