On February 1, the clocks were put forward one hour in the state of Quintana Roo and the Mexican Caribbean now has an extra hour of daylight as a new time zone came into effect.
This measure means that Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and other tourist destinations in the state are now on the same time as cities in the Eastern Standard Time zone in the United States. It does not apply to the neighboring states of Yucatan or Campeche and the state is also one hour ahead of Mexico City.
