Traveling to Cancun soon? If so, why not plan a visit to the Cancun Maya Museum. It has interesting displays on Mayan history and culture, artifacts unearthed at archaeological sites in Quintana Roo and Yucatan, and is now hosting a new seasonal exhibition called “Early Man in Central Mexico.”
On display are ancient bones and artifacts found in central Mexico, thousands of years before the Aztecs. The climate, vegetation and geography were very different then and you’ll see evidence of the creatures that roamed the land, including mastodons and saber tooth tiger, and learn about the first nomads and their long journey south through the Americas.
From hunter-gatherers to the dawn of agriculture and the first settlements, this is a fascinating insight into early man.
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., closed on Mondays. Admission includes a visit to the San Miguelito archaeological site.
