A beach restoration project is underway at The Royal Cancun. Approved by SEMARNAT, the federal Mexican Environmental Agency, the work entails removing rocks and other debris from the area, clearing a patch of sea grass and widening the beach.

Sand is being dredged from a sand bank in the bay in front of the resort and pumped onto the shoreline in front of Buildings 9, 10, 1 and 2 and La Palapa Restaurant. The work is being carried out in compliance with the strictest environmental regulations in order to protect marine life. It is not affecting bathers or the enjoyment of the beach for vacationers in any way.

The project is slated for completion in March.
