Cancun and the Mexican Caribbean: A Golf Destination in the Making.

If you like golf, you have definitely chosen the right place for your vacation. The Mexican Caribbean is well on the way to becoming a world-class golf destination with a host of magnificent courses designed by some of the PGA’s most famous players.

There are now three 18-hole golf courses in the Cancun Hotel Zone, a Greg Norman-designed course in Playa Mujeres, 20 minutes north of the city and several more between Cancún and Puerto Morelos.

South of Puerto Morelos, the Riviera Maya offers a collection of impressive courses at the Iberostar Playa Paraiso Resort, in Maya Koba, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras and at Bahia Principe near Akumal. More are on the way, including one at Grand Coral, the beach and golf community where The Royal Haciendas, the first Riviera Maya Royal Resort, is located. Designed by famous Zimbabwean player Nick Price, the Grand Coral golf course is slated for completion in 2011.

The island of Cozumel also has a signature Jack Nicklaus course and golfers can expect to see more clubs spring up throughout the Mexican Caribbean in years to come.

This February, the Riviera Maya hosts the fourth Maya Koba Classic tournament, the first PGA official tour event to be staged in Mexico.
